Magnifying glass graphic with monk seal entangled in net. Link to additional information about gillnets and marine debris in HawaiiIn the past few years, enough gill nets have been confiscated by State conservation officers to stretch miles from Diamond Head to Pearl Harbor.

Sea turtles, monk seals, small sharks, and fish are often snared and drowned by these silent killers.

Coral heads and other delicate marine life living on reefs sustain severe damage when nets drag over them.

Many of these senseless tragedies can be avoided if net owners follow two simple rules:

If you are fishing with gill nets, remember to check them every two hours and remove them from the water after four hours.

Never, ever, leave your nets behind… because they keep on catching... and killing.

Keep Hawai`i Wild. It's your heritage, too.
