Wildlife preserves are breeding grounds for many species of seabirds. But most seabirds, since they don't go to school, cannot read and they don't know what a sanctuary is. So, hundreds of them nest in the sand dunes of public beaches and on offshore islands every year. Household pets, as tame as they may be, can wreck havoc if allowed to run free in active breeding grounds. Hundreds of defenseless seabird chicks can be maimed or killed in a single season.

You can help save Hawai`i's beautiful seabirds by leashing your pets along the shorelines and by reporting stray animals near nesting areas.
